FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I care for my Keeki® Bag?

Wipe interior with a cool damp dishcloth.  To clean the exterior linen you can brush or wipe gently with cold soapy water.  Avoid hot water.

2. Why is my bread drying out quickly?

Because the Keeki® Bag is not airtight like a plastic bag, it is not optimal for use with pre-sliced bread.

If the bread has been cut, eliminate as much air in the bag as possible. We suggest folding any excess parts of the bag over its contents. Furthermore, put the cut edge of the loaf flat against the interior beeswax lining. Try to reduce the inner crumb from being exposed to any excess air.

You can also add a piece of wax paper against the cut face.  Ultimately, how quickly a loaf dries out is very dependent on the hydration of the dough, flour used, temperature, humidity of your kitchen.

3. What is the Keeki® Bag made of?

The exterior is a linen & cotton blend, and the interior is a beeswax coated cotton fabric.

4. Can I use the Keeki® bag in the freezer?

No, you cannot use the Keeki® Bags in the freezer.

The beeswax will not function as intended in extreme cold or hot temperatures. Whenever you freeze anything, it should be in an airtight container to prevent any moisture loss that leads to freezer burn.

5. My bread has developed mold, how should I treat my Keeki® Bag?

If the Keeki® Bags has been exposed to mold, it is imperative to kill the spores.

If you resume use of the Keeki® Bag for organic materials without taking care of this issue, it will continue to give mold a place to develop.

If you have found mold exposure in your Keeki® Bag:

Turn the bag inside out. Wipe the beeswax with an antibacterial wipe or some hydrogen peroxide. Then, wash with cool water and mild dish soap & hang to dry. Expose the part that exhibited mold in direct sunlight. The sunlight will aid in the destruction of existing mold spores. By direct, we mean outside, not through a window.

Just like wild yeast, mold spores are in the air.  Therefore, it is important to keep checking any food stored in the Keeki® Bag for mold growth.  In the right conditions, mold will grow anywhere.
